The Spirit of Carnival
Artist’s Statement

I have been married to a “Trini” woman for the past 24 years. My wife and her family are very artistic and have always been very involved in the Carnival celebrations and festivities. I first visited Trinidad during the Carnival season in 1989 and because the experience was so amazing, I have returned countless times since then. On each visit I shot between 20-30 rolls of film in an attempt to capture the many aspects of the Carnival experience as well as the beauty and culture of the island.

Upon a request from the Consulate of Trinidad and Tobago, I have personally selected the photographs for this exhibit from hundreds of photographs shot over the years. It is my hope that by viewing these selected images the true spirit and beauty of Carnival will be revealed to all.

Keep in mind that the music of Carnival is the thread. Although this aspect is not visually captured on film, it is a significant aspect experienced by. Please enjoy the photos.
