Ademola graduated
from the Fashion Institute of Technology and was a pioneer in
the concept of wearable art when he co-founded and directed
the House of Umoja in 1966. He used the body as moveable sculpture
and his fashion & jewelry creations inspired many designers
of that time and set the pace for today's Afrocentric collections.
He also began collaborating with some of the writers of that
period, i.e. Sonia Sanchez, Ed Bullins, Amiri Baraka & Oyamo
and from 1969-1972 was Resident Designer and Associate Art Director
for the New Lafayette Theatre. He has also done consultant projects
with the National Black Theatre and The Public Theatre. As graphic
designer and illustrator, Ademola has produced cover designs
and illustrations for books by several prominent African-American
authors, and has designed and illustrated a number of books,
booklets, brochures and fliers for a variety of cultural and
business organizations. Commissions included Anchor Press-Doubleday,
Harper & Row and William Morrow & Company, Inc.
