Season’s greetings ! I hope that you have had a very productive and enjoyable academic year.

 

The 50th Annual Conference for the American Association for Chinese Studies will be held at the California State University at Fullerton on October 17-19, 2008.  Thanks to Professors Shelley Rigger and other members of the Program Committee, the preliminary program will be posted at the AACS website soon. Professor Robert Mead will be the host for conference arrangements. Here is some important information regarding the conference.

 

Information about Airport and Conference Hotel in Fullerton, California

 

Airports to Fullerton California

 

There are up to five airports that can be used to attend a conference at Fullerton. All 5 airports have shuttle service to the Fullerton Marriott by either SuperShuttle or Primetime Shuttle. Both of these shuttle services have websites to book transport. SuperShuttle's URL is www.supershuttle.com and Primetime's URL is www.primetimeshuttle.com. (The following fare quotes were all before recent increases in gasoline prices.)  There are also some other shuttle services which may serve only one or two airports and they may be a little cheaper

The closest airport to Fullerton is Orange County-John Wayne (SNA)

The Supershuttle fare is $20 to the Fullerton Marriott. Additional passengers can also ride at $9/person.  Primetime shuttle indicated a fare of $18

Los Angeles International (LAX) is going to be the best airport for international arrivals and will have the most direct flights. It does, however, have all the disadvantages of a large airport and LA traffic. SuperShuttle fare to hotel is $30 and Primetime fare is $35.

Long Beach Airport (LGB) is a third option which attendees may find useful because it is used by JetBlue and may result in low fares. Shuttle fares was $35 for SuperShuttle.

As the fourth option, Ontario Airport (ONT) has the advantage of having longer operating hours than the Orange County airport and fewer crowding or traffic issues than LAX. On the other hand, it arguably is the most remote of the airports.  Shuttle fares to hotel are $40 for Ontario and $38 for Primetime.

             The 5th possible airport is Burbank's Bob Hope Airport (BUR). It is smaller and quieter than the others, but it sometimes will benefit from a fare sale from some locations.

             The cut-off date for AACS convention rate is September 5, 2008.

 

 

The registration fee is still $20 for AACS active members and $ 50 for others. Registration fee for spouse is $ 10.00. Non-active members can reactivate their AACS membership, and non-AACS members can apply for their AACS membership prior to the conference by paying the $30.00 membership fee to the AACS office.
