"Imaging Quantum Transport: Scanning Gate Microscopy on Graphene"
Mesoscopic conductance fluctuations in graphene are imaged using scanning gate microscopy. To do so, a homebuilt low-T, high-B, atomic force microscope which operates at ~100 mK and 16 T was used. The interaction of a localized nanoscale probe, the afm tip, with a graphene sheet influences the pattern of conductance fluctuations. We explore the effect of several external parameters, in particular the tip position and its bias, on the statistics of conductance fluctuations. We show that depending on the tip bias, the regime of tip-sample interaction can be tuned: from a rather non invasive probe at low bias, which allows us to extract information about density inhomogeneities, to the high tip bias regime which appears to be much more intrusive but is still able to give access to important devices parameters like the Fermi wavelength.
