    Dean Spade, law professor and activist,  will speak on the arbitrary use of police power.

    Dean Spade is a law professor and activist who founded the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, a collective that provides free legal services to transgendered individuals.  He is the author of Normal Life: Administrative Violence, Critical Trans Politics, and the Limits of Law.  Dean examines how skin color, poverty, sexual orientation, gender expression and homelessness place individuals at risk for police abuse.  He is an outspoken opponent of the current criminal justice system, including stop and frisk, mass incarceration and the prison system.
