    Hillary Brown lectures on "Greening the NYC Public Realm: Principles, Process and Practice."

    Hillary Brown, FAIA, is Professor at the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at the City College of New York, where she teaches in the new interdisciplinary Masters of Science program: Sustainability in the Urban Environment, organized jointly with the School of Engineering and CCNY's Science Division. 

    Professor Brown also heads her own consulting firm, New Civic Works, which assists public, institutional and nonprofit owners in sustainability planning for buildings and infrastructure. Previous clients include the City of New York, the City of New Haven’s Public Schools Construction Program, the State University of New York and Governors Island Education and Preservation Corporation. 

    In 1999, she founded NYC’s first Office of Sustainable Design, publishing the City's green building guidelines that today have directly impacted nearly 100 projects.  In 2005, she co-authored the companion publication: High Performance Infrastructure Guideline: best practices for the public right-of-way.

    Dr. Brown has served on both the national and New York Board of Directors for the U.S. Green Building Council. She is a Fellow of the Post-Carbon Institute and a member of the National Academies Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment.
