    Lecture: "'The City of Women': The Xiré as performance and politics in Afro-Brazilian Candomblé.”

    The Division of Humanities and The Arts and The Black Studies Program Present Dr. Cheryl Sterling of New York University and Candidate for the position of City College Director of Black Studies presenting a Lecture entitled: "'The City of Women': The Xiré as performance and politics in Afro-Brazilian Candomblé.”

    This event is free and open to the public.  A light lunch will be served.

    Cheryl Sterling, Professor of English at New York University, is the author of African Roots, Brazilian Rites: Cultural and National Identity in Brazil (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012). Dr. Sterling holds a Ph.D in African Languages and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a MPhil in African Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon. She is the former Chairperson of Global Cultures Faculty in Liberal Studies at New York University.
