CCNY Faculty Wins Mariposa Award

Irina Carlota Silber, known as Lotti, an associate professor of anthropology in the Colin L. Powell School, has won the Mariposa prize for best first book (nonfiction) for Everyday Revolutionaries: Gender, Violence, and Disillusionment in Postwar El Salvador.

New program links students to internships, housing, programming and more.
This summer, the Colin L. Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership launches its new Colin L. Powell School Semester in Washington program. The program will link 11 CCNY students with internships in our nation’s capital and provide them with free housing through Washington Intern Housing Network, an intern housing and management agency.
On Thursday, May 2, in the cathedral-like Great Hall of Shepard Hall, the City College of New York celebrated the establishment of the Colin L. Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership. The school includes the departments of anthropology, economics and business, political science, psychology, and sociology, along with groundbreaking programs such as the Skadden Arps Honors Program in Legal Studies. The CUNY board of trustees established the school on April 29, 2013, with a unanimous vote.
