TUTORING SERVICES
Many programs and departments in the College offer tutoring services to
students. Information on the major tutoring programs is provided below.
Chemistry Tutoring Center
The Chemistry Tutoring Center is located in Room J1029 in the Marshak Science
Building. Extensive tutoring services are available for students in all
general chemistry and some advanced courses. For further information please
contact the Chemistry (x8402) Department office or contact the tutor coordinator
in Room J1029.
Physics Tutoring Center
The Physics Department (x6832) operates the Physics Tutoring Center located
in Room J418S. Staffed by upper-level physics majors, help is available
in the introductory, as well as some of the more advanced, physics courses.
Biology Resource Center
The Biology Resource Center is a drop-in multimedia facility designed to
allow students to supplement their classroom and laboratory instruction
on their own time. Located in the Marshak Science Building, Room J502,
student's may use the Center's computers to access software packages that
cover a variety of topics relevant to their coursework, featuring animation,
practice problems, self-tests, and other learning tools. In addition, students
have the use of models, slides, audio tapes of faculty lectures, textbooks,
and other materials. Check with the Biology Department office (x6800) for
hours of operation.
Engineering
The Office of Recruitment and Retention, located in the Y-Building, Room
Y130, assists in coordinating tutorial services offered by the Engineering
departments; tutoring is also available through the campus chapters of engineering
societies and organizations. PRES (Program for the Retention of Engineering
Students) is a comprehensive enrichment program for selected minority engineering
students that offers an array of support services, including tutoring in
prerequisite math, science, and some introductory engineering courses.

College Skills and Reading Lab
Individual, small group and computer assisted tutoring is available for
students enrolled in College Study Skills courses and for those who have
not yet passed the Reading Skills Assessment Test. The College Skills and
Reading Lab (x8105) is located in Harris Hall, Room H010.
ESL Tutoring Lab
Students enrolled in the first- and second-level English as a Second Language
courses receive tutoring in English in small group settings and in the computer
lab. The ESL Tutoring Lab (x8153) is located in Harris Hall, Room H015.
Math Lab
Students referred by their instructors, or who come independently for assistance,
study with peer tutors. Under faculty supervision, students can be helped
to improve their performance on the Skills Assessment Test and in courses
through third semester calculus. The Math Lab (x8104) is located in Harris
Hall, Room H010.
SEEK Study Center
All SEEK students are eligible to use the resources of the SEEK Study Center
(x8104) located in Harris Hall, Room H003. The Center offers individual
and small group tutoring in basic skills and academic subjects as well as
access to computers.
Student Support Services Program
The Student Support Services Program offers academic, career, financial
assistance and personal counseling to non-SEEK students who are enrolled
in two or more remedial courses. In addition, group and individual tutoring
are provided to help students acquire and develop writing and mathematical
skills. Workshops in such areas as study skills, test taking, note taking,
term paper writing, research techniques, and resume writing are offered
during the academic year. Cultural enrichment activities are also part
of the program. The Student Support Services Program (x6829) is located
in the NAC Building, Rooms R6/147-48.
CCAPP
The City College Academy for Professional Preparation (CCAPP) offers
science (including pre-medical), architecture, and pre-nursing students
a full program of academic support and enrichment. The program includes
weekly tutorial workshops for all introductory and advanced biology, chemistry,
and physics courses, referral to research and internship experiences, counseling,
career and skills development workshops, social activities, and access to
study space in the CCAPP Study Center (Marshak Science Building, Room J1005)
and the CCAPP Architecture Studio (Shepard Hall, Room S409). For more information
