Core Requirements

 Requirements

In general, students are required to complete 42 credits of General Education coursework, with some adjustments for transfer students.  Students in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences will satisfy their “Pathways” requirements most efficiently by adhering to the following recommendations:

COMMON CORE

ENGLISH COMPOSITION: (students must take two courses in this area)

IAS 10000:  Writing for Interdisciplinary Studies I                                                              

IAS 10100:  Writing for Interdisciplinary Studies II

MATHEMATICS & QUANTITATIVE REASONING:

MATH 150:  Math for the Contemporary World – 3 credits

IAS 31120:  Math Lab for Interdisciplinary Studies Co-req   – 1 credit

MATH 180: Quantitative Reasoning – 3 credits

IAS 31120:  Math Lab for Interdisciplinary Studies Co-req   – 1 credit                                                                                  

LIFE & PHYSICAL SCIENCES:

IAS 10400:  Nature & Human Beings I                                                                    

 

FLEXIBLE CORE

COLLEGE OPTION

For beginning students: (12 credits total)

As courses in the Common Core are 4 credits, 1 credit from each of the 10 courses will count toward the College Option, for a total of 10 credits. This includes:

IAS 31120: Math Lab for Interdisciplinary Studies – 1 credit co-req. for MATH

AND

SPAN 22300: Intermediate Spanish– 2 credits

For transfer students with less than 30 credits: 12 credits total

For transfer students with more than 30 credits but without an Associates Degree: 9 credits total

For transfer students with an Associates Degree: 6 credits total

English Composition:

ENGL 31134: The Essay (4 credits)

Or

ENGL 31384: Advanced Composition (4 Credits)

AND

SPAN 12104 & SPAN 12204  (8 credits)

Or

Students placing out of SPAN 121 and 122 will have the option of taking:

SPAN 22300: Intermediate Spanish (2 credits)

Or up to 2 of the following: (4 or 8 credits)
