Berechman appointed as the Marvin Kristein Professor in the Department of Economics and Business at the Colin Powell School at the City College of New York

Dr. Joseph Berechman has been appointed the Marvin Kristein Professor in the Department of Economics and Business at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at the City College, the City University of New York, beginning in the spring semester of 2014.  He served as chair of the department since arriving in 2007, where he presided over a rejuvenation of the department, hiring eleven tenure-line faculty and nearly doubling the number of majors.  Previously he was the CN Chair Professor in Transportation and International Logistics, the Sauder School of Business, the University of British Columbia, Canada. He is also a Professor Emeritus of Tel Aviv University, Israel.

Dr. Berechman received his Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel; his MBA from the Wharton School; and his PhD degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He was on the faculty of SUNY Buffalo, Tel-Aviv University and the University of California, Irvine. He has been a Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies and a Senior Visiting Researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Berechman has consulted on a large variety of transportation and urban projects in different countries and has been a principal investigator in several major studies done for the European Union, the Netherlands, Israel and the USA.

Dr. Berechman's major academic interests are in the fields of transportation economics, urban economics and transportation and urban policy. His current research interests focus on transportation infrastructure investment analysis; the relationships between transportation development and economic growth; risk analysis in transportation investments; transportation policy and decision-making. He has published 5 books and numerous journal articles. His most recent book is The Evaluation of Transportation Investment Projects (Routledge, 2009).
