Graduate Studies in Secondary Science
CCNY offers three options for those interested in a secondary science
teacher certification program. Option 1 is a permanent certification
plus Master's degree program for teachers who already have a provisional
certificate. Option 2 is a provisional certification plus Master's
degree program for teacher candidates who do not have certification
or a Masters Degree. Option 3 is for teacher candidates who already
have a Masters Degree but no certification.
Interested students should apply for admission to the School
of Education.

Option 1: Master of Arts Degree in Science Education, Professional
Certification
This degree is primarily intended for provisionally certified teachers
seeking a Masters degree and permanent certification.
Entrance requirements:
- satisfactory completion of a Bachelor's
Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics (or the
equivalent)
- provisional certification in Secondary Science
- three supporting letters of recommendation.

Option 2: Master of Arts Degree in Science Education, Initial
Certification
This degree is intended for individuals with a background in science
but without any certification or Masters degree.
Entrance requirements:
- satisfactory completion of a Bachelor's
Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics (or the
equivalent)
- three supporting letters of recommendation.

Option 2B: Master of Arts Degree in Science Education, Initial
Certification: Transitional B Option
This degree is intended for individuals with a background in science
but without any certification or Masters degree and want to be certified
in the classroom as soon as possible. Candidates must be part of
existing Transitional B programs such as New York City Teaching
Fellows.

Option 3: Initial Certification
This degree is primarily intended for individuals with a background
in science interested in provisional certification but not a Masters
degree.

- satisfactory completion of a Masters
Degree in Science or Science Education
- three supporting letters of recommendation.
