Research, Internship and Co-op Opportunities

The CCNY is a research institution and EE faculty conduct a number of research projects where EE undergraduate students can participate. There is also a CCNY Research Honors program that allows qualified students to pursue independent research projects under EE faculty guidance. Examples: the Collegiate Science Technology Program (CSTEP), the CUNY Louis Stokes New York Alliance for Minority Participation in Science (LSAMP), the NOAA-CREST research center.

On the other hand, the CCNY School of Engineering has an Office of Student Development (OSD), located at Room: T-2M7. The OSP is very instrumental in providing EE students with opportunities in research, with internships, and summer programs. Research Laboratories
The undergraduate program in electrical engineering welcomes students who have a solid preparation in mathematical and the sciences. The course of study trains students in analytical procedures to solve specific problems, in laboratory methods to examine complex electrical phenomena, and ultimately in design synthesis to meet specific functions. The program emphasizes mathematical modeling and abstract reasoning because electrical phenomena cannot normally be directly perceived sagely by human senses. The program’s core areas include linear systems and controls, electromagnetics theory, electronics, communications, and computers. Through a variety of elective courses, students are then able to pursue special interests in such areas as lasers, microprocessors, digital signal processing, networks, telecommunications, and microwaves.

The graduate program comprises four broad areas: Computer Engineering, involving courses in the design of the components of computer systems, the architecture and organization of computers, the analysis and design of computer communication networks, and in computer applications; Telecommunications Engineering, involving courses in computer communication systems, local area networks, communications protocol engineering, and wireless communication; Photonics Engineering, involving courses in theoretical foundations, such as Electrodynamics, components, such as Introduction to Lasers, and systems, such as Fiber Optic Communications, and Optical Signal Processing; Systems Engineering, involving courses in linear system theory, signal theory, probability and stochastic processes, and random functions as well as practice-oriented courses in control systems, digital signal processing, image processing, and neural networks. Financial aid is available to highly qualified Masters and PhD students.

CINTTelecommunication Information Networking Group (TING) conducts research and development in the fields of high-speed, multi-media, multi-service, integrated wired/wireless networks, mobility in IP and ATM networks, secure communications, and information distribution networks.
