The Architecture Library, located on the fourth floor of Shepard Hall, a
landmark, Collegiate-Gothic building designed by George Browne Post, houses a
collection that includes books and periodicals on architecture, landscape
architecture, building technology/construction, and urban design.
Research Items of particular local note in the collection include New York
City's Building Code and Zoning Resolution and maps (now both online), a collection of city-wide demographic
information for community districts (now also online), designation reports of the New York City
Landmark Preservation Commission (recent ones online), up-to-date Sanborn maps for Manhattan,
and the publications of the Harlem Urban Development Corporation over its twenty-five year history.
The library's collection also includes the annual Sweets catalogs of building products'
information, the microfiche collection of the National Register of Historic Places, and
the Historic American Buildings Survey's measured drawings of notable historic
structures in New York State on microfiche.
Thirteen public workstations in the library offer Web access. We offer black & white
and color printing from computers via the library's copiers.
Printed guides and librarian/staff assistance are available.
