HISTORY:    The CUNY Dominican Studies Institute was founded in August of 1992 and approved in 1994 by the Board of Trustees of CUNY as an integrated research unit of the University.  The Dominican Institute's Library seems to be the only university-based resource of Dominican Studies in New York, recognized as having the most comprehensive Dominican studies collection in the United States.  The library opened in April of 1994 with an outreach to the CUNY community as well as to the different organizations dealing with Dominican issues.

CLIENTELE & OPERATIONS:    The Library's collection is used by academics, scholars, students, professionals, journalists, artists, governments and agencies from all over the world.  The library operates at limited hours (Mondays to Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m; and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) and a previous appointment is necessary to use the resources due to the limited space.

COLLECTION:    The size of the non-circulating library collection is 2,550 holdings from periodicals (journals, newspaper and magazine articles) as well as manuscripts, maps, official documents, declassified U.S. Government documents, plus 1,400 books, and 40 audiovisual materials.
