EVENTS

On May 9th, Tissage en Mots et Musique, was held in Shepard Hall’s Recital hall. It consisted of french music, poetry and drama, ranging from the Middle Ages through the 20th Century, produced and performed by students and facullty at the College. Among the performers were two City College Music Department faculty members, Alison Deane pianist, and Janet Steele soprano, who performed Fêtes galantes inspired by Verlaine poetry. The program also included recitals from Pascal Quignard, Théophile Gautier, René Philombe, Marguerite Duras, Marie Célie Agnant, Tahar Ben Jelloun, and music from Couperin, Berlioz, Satie, Jolivet, Django Reinhardt, Sidney Bechet.
This program was followed by a reception, featuring many French culinary delights. Well over 100 people attended this event.


The second event, Les Gitans au Café des Artistes, which took place on December 11th 2002, was an invitation to a two-hour long event into the Francophone world. This program consisted of the music Of Django Reinhardt and Maurice Ravel, poetry by Andrée Chédid, Boris Vian, Nadir Boumaza and Jacques Prévert. Another segment of the program included dance performances by French student performers Ramón Flower and Veronica López. This event was also attended by well over 100 people and was followed by a buffet of French and Haitian food.


The Third event, Voyage et Partage, an Atelier-Lumières event was held at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, on May 23rd 2003.
It featured concert performances of Waterfall (May This Be Love) by Jimi Hendrix, Mars by John Coltrane and Cosmic Rays by Charlie Parker along with excerpts from Bitches Brew by Miles Davis interspersed with classical and original poetry.
