Andrea Weiss

Andrea Weiss is an author, documentary filmmaker and editor. She recently produced RECALL FLORIDA, a documentary road movie following Janet Reno's botched campaign for Governor of Florida. She is the director of ESCAPE TO LIFE, a fiction/documentary hybrid which premiered in the Rotterdam and Berlin Film Festivals, and had a wide European theatrical and television release.

Andrea's previous films include I LIVE AT GROUND ZERO, SEED OF SARAH, A BIT OF SCARLET, BEFORE STONEWALL (which won two Emmy Awards), INTERNATIONAL SWEETHEARTS OF RHYTHM, and PARIS WAS A WOMAN. Professor Weiss has a Ph.D. in history, and is author of PARIS WAS A WOMAN (Harper Collins, 1995), VAMPIRES AND VIOLETS: LESBIANS IN FILM (Penguin, 1993), and the forthcoming IN THE SHADOW OF THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN: THE ERIKA AND KLAUS MANN STORY. She was awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, and New York Foundation for the Arts, and was Artist-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, and the D.A.A.D. in Berlin. She has taught at the International Film and Photo Workshops, New York University, and the National Film and Television School of Great Britain.
