  • Cybersecurity Education Chief Speaks at NOAA-CREST Day

    In a world increasingly dependent upon interconnected computer systems, cybersecurity cannot be ignored. Dr. Ernest McDuffie directs the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), a federal program with a portfolio that ranges from teaching people how to protect themselves on the Internet to preparing people for careers as cybersecurity professionals. Last month, he was keynote speaker for the 12th annual NOAA-CREST Day at The City College of New York.

    The City College of New York has entered into a three-year agreement with the government of Mexico that will enable the College to host Cátedra Cultura de México, a series of Mexican culture lectures, on its campus and at offsite locations in New York City. The first event in the series is a three-day conference, April 23-25, at CCNY’s main campus in Harlem, the CCNY Center for Worker Education in Lower Manhattan and Instituto Cervantes New York in Midtown Manhattan.

    Tom Sleigh, senior poet and director of Hunter College’s creative writing MFA program, will be the featured guest poet for the 41st annual The City College Poetry Festival. The all-day, all-verse event runs 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 10, in Theater B of Aaron Davis Hall, 135th Street and Convent Avenue on the CCNY campus. Dubbed “the Woodstock of the Spoken Word,” the festival has become New York’s longest-running poetry celebration.

    “Waterproofing New York,” a daylong conference to explore the impact of past and future storms on five key infrastructure systems: water/waste, power/data, circulation/fuel, parks and recreation, and shelter, has been rescheduled to Saturday March 2, conference organizers with City College’s Spitzer School of Architecture announced. The event, originally scheduled for February 9, was postponed due to City College being closed for a snowstorm.
