  • CCNY Sweeps Police Foundation Student Ad Competition

    In a collaborative effort, The City College of New York’s advertising/public relations program (AD/PR) in the media and communication arts department and the art department’s electronic design and multimedia program (EDM) swept the New York City Police Foundation’s 2010 advertising competition.  They took the top three prizes in the print category, besting teams from Pratt Institute and Parsons The New School for Design.

  • Spitzer School Team Wins in ‘Build a Better Burb’ Competition

    Replacing the asphalt pavement in parking lots with permeable grass-pavers that can withstand car traffic and sustain biomass would not only improve their aesthetics but help fight global warming.  That idea was one of the elements of a winning proposal submitted by a team of landscape architects from the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at The City College of New York in the Long Island Index’ “Build a Better Burb” competition.

  • Two CCNY Students Honored in Name of Clinton Climate Initiative

    Two fourth-year students in the Spitzer School of Architecture at The City College of New York (CCNY) will receive scholarships in the name of the Clinton Climate Initiative for their team leadership efforts in CCNY’s entry in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon 2011.  Farah Ahmad and Samuel Mikhail, natives of Staten Island now living in Manhattan, will be recognized October 7 at the Heritage Ball, a benefit held by the American Institute of Architects’ New York (AIA NY) chapter and the Center for Architecture Foundation.

  • CCNY Announces 2010 City College, Mellon Mays Fellows

    The City College of New York (CCNY) has announced the 2010 City College and Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows.  The 13 students selected for the two programs – eight City College Fellows and five Mellon Mays Fellows – receive financial and academic support to prepare them for graduate school and future careers in research and college-level teaching.  Among the 13 are five students born outside the United States.

  • New CCNY Program Helps Students Navigate Workplace

    Ten City College of New York (CCNY) students participated this summer in a new program that combined work experience with workshops to develop the skills employers value in entry-level employees.  “The Development of Young Professionals Summer Program (DYPP) aims to ensure CCNY students are armed with the tools needed to successfully navigate any work environment,” said Ian Matthews, a human resources generalist and program co-founder.

  • CCNY Alumnus Stephen Cook Receives Fulbright Scholarship

    Stephen Cook, an ’09 MS graduate of The City College of New York (CCNY), has received a 2010-2011 Fulbright U.S. program scholarship to travel to Vietnam.  There he will teach English to university students at Hai Duong Teacher Training College.

  • CCNY Student Project Inspires New Open Space in Harlem

    A City College of New York (CCNY) graduate student’s capstone project has led to the creation of new community space for residents of two buildings in central Harlem.  Two adjacent empty lots on W. 140th Street between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and Malcolm X Boulevards are being transformed into a garden and play area thanks to the initiative of Dawn Mikkelson, who earned her Master of Public Administration degree in May, and her mentor, Dr. Jean Krasno.

  • Grove School Students Win Intelligent Ground Vehicle Design Competition

    A five-member team of students in the Grove School of Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY) took first place in the design category in the 18th annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC).  The event, in which 58 teams from six countries qualified to compete, was held June 4 – 7 at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Mich.

  • Korean Singer Gives CCNY’s Colin Powell Center $10,000

    Kim In-soon, the acclaimed Korean R&B vocalist, came to The City College of New York (CCNY) Thursday, June 3, to visit with students and to present a $10,000 gift to the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies.  The gift will support the Center’s mission of developing new generations of leaders from populations previously underrepresented in public service and policy circles.

  • Helen Levin, BArch ’10, Receives AIA Fontainebleau Prize

    Helen Levin, a graduating fifth-year architecture student in the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at The City College of New York (CCNY), has been awarded the AIA Fontainebleau Prize.  The prize provides a full scholarship to the summer program for architects at the Fontainebleau Schools held in Chateau Fontainebleau, south of Paris.  A second graduating fifth-year architecture student at CCNY, Shengyi Pu, won a partial scholarship to attend Fontainebleau.
