  • New Study Supports Body Shape Index as Predictor of Mortality

    In 2012, Dr. Nir Krakauer, an assistant professor of civil engineering in CCNY’s Grove School of Engineering, and his father, Dr. Jesse Krakauer, MD, developed a new method to quantify the risk specifically associated with abdominal obesity.

  • CCNY Hosts NYC Science & Engineering Fair Preliminary Round

    The City College of New York will host the preliminary round of the New York City Science & Engineering Fair, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the Great Hall, Shepard Hall. Sponsored by the New York City Department of Education and the City University of New York, the fair is the largest high school research competition in New York City.

  • Panel of Historians to Examine 1812 Constitution of Cádiz

    Historian Eric D. Weitz, dean of The City College of New York’s Division of Humanities and the Arts, leads a four-member panel discussion March 3 at CCNY on the groundbreaking 1812 Spanish Constitution of Cádiz.   • LGBT Youth Face Greater Cancer Risks, CCNY-Led Study

    A new study led by City College of New York psychologist Margaret Rosario found that youths of same-sex orientation are more likely to engage in behaviors associated with cancer risk than heterosexuals. The peer-reviewed findings appear in the February 2014 issue of the “American Journal of Public Health.”

    City College of New York seniors Rene Cordero, Shanna Jean-Baptiste, Emmanuel Lachaud and Debra Williams traveled to South Africa to attend the University of Cape Town Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellows (MMUF) January program. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation funded the trip.

  • Roosevelt Institute Publishes Five CCNY Student Policy Papers

    Seven City College student members of The Roosevelt Institute, a progressive think, have had five papers accepted for publication in the Institute’s annual “10 Ideas Series,” which will come out in April. The booklet is a compilation of papers by Roosevelt student chapter members from more than 100 affiliated campuses.

  • Environmental Economics Major Finalist for Zayed Future Energy Prize

    Arlae Castellanos, a junior at The City College of New York majoring in environmental economics through the CUNY BA program was a finalist for the 2014 Zayed Future Energy Prize. She traveled to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the 6th annual awards ceremony, January 20, and received $50,000 to support her project, which competed in the global high school category.

  • CCNY Black History Month Art Exhibit Opens February 10

    Artwork by seven nationally and internationally recognized African-American artists highlights “Shots, Strokes, Threads, Vol. 3,” the City College Black History Month art exhibit. The exhibit, which features Haitian art and work by CCNY SEEK students, as well, runs through February 28, and is on display in the Cohen Library Archives reading room, sixth floor, North Academic Center.

  • Project Teaches Undergrads to Reconstruct Ancient Family Histories

    Approximately 200 student volunteers from The City College of New York and seven other New York area colleges are participating in The New York City Student Ancestry Project. The project kicked off Monday, February 3, at an event at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), where the students provided DNA cheek swabs for National Geographic’s Genographic Project.

    Veteran journalist Ray Suarez comes to The City College of New York, Tuesday, February 25, for a conversation with President Lisa S. Coico.   • Afghan Television Journalist Visits CCNY to Report on Diversity

    Eleven City College students and Distinguished Lecturer Lynne Scott Jackson from the media and communications art department participated in a group interview January 30 with Afghani television journalist Parwiz Shamal of Tolo News. Mr. Shamal is on a two-week visit to the United States, supported by a U.S. State Department grant, to produce a series of reports on diversity in America.

  • CCNY Named To Princeton Review's 2014 List Of ‘Best Value Colleges’

    The City College of New York is one of the nation’s “Best Value” colleges and universities, according to The Princeton Review.
