  • CCNY RECEIVES NEW FIVE-YEAR, $12.5 MILLION RCMI GRANT FROM NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH

    NEW YORK, October 11, 2005 – The City College of New York (CCNY) announced today that the National Institute of Health (NIH) has approved its five-year grant through the RCMI (Research Centers for Minority Institutions) initiative. The grant, which is retroactive to August 2005, provides $2.158 million in year one funding with recommendations for an additional $10.3 million over the life of the grant. Notification of the approval was received in late September.

  • CCNY, NATIONAL ARTS CLUB PRESENT FIRST GEORGE B. POST AWARD TO ARCHITECT JAMES STEWART POLSHEK

    NEW YORK, September 22, 2005 – James Stewart Polshek of New York, who designed the Clinton Presidential Center as well as expansions and renovations of several notable public buildings, will receive the first George B. Post Award for Excellence in Architecture, given by The City College of New York (CCNY) and the National Arts Club. The award will be presented at a reception and dinner in Mr. Polshek’s honor Monday, September 26, at the Club’s headquarters on Gramercy Park.

    George S. McGovern, one of the first U.S. senators to oppose the war in Vietnam, will discuss his 1972 Presidential bid Wednesday, September 14, in the Great Hall, Shepard Hall, at The City College of New York (CCNY).     NEW YORK, August 22, 2005 – In a groundbreaking experiment, researchers from The City College of New York (CCNY) and Lehman College have measured the speed of magnetic avalanches and discovered that the process is analogous to the flame front of a flammable substance.     NEW YORK, August 10, 2005 – Nat Holman: The Man, His Legacy and CCNY, an exhibition celebrating the life, achievements and 37-year coaching career of Nat Holman, who led CCNY’s varsity basketball team to victory in the 1950 NCAA and NIT championships, has opened to the public.     NEW YORK, August 10, 2005 – David Diaz, an award-winning broadcast journalist who spent 27 years covering major stories for two of New York’s biggest television stations, has joined the faculty of The City College of New York (CCNY) as a Distinguished Lecturer, the College announced today.
