Senate Historian, CCNY Alum Donald Ritchie, Helps Report Ted Kennedy’s Story
The Historian of the U.S. Senate functions as its institutional memory. Last month, newly appointed Senate Historian Dr. Donald A. Ritchie, a member of CCNY’s Class of 1967, played a role in helping journalists report on the 47-year career of the “Lion of the Senate,” Edward M. “Ted” Kennedy, who passed away August 25.

Acclaimed Writers Julia Alvarez, Rhina Espaillat Donate Books To CUNY Dominican Studies Institute Library At CCNY
NEW YORK, August 25, 2009 – The CUNY Dominican Studies Institute (CUNYDSI) at The City College of New York (CCNY) recently received collections of books from well-known Dominican writers Julia Alvarez and Rhina Espaillat. The donations include complete collections of the authors’ published writings as well as several books from their personal libraries on topics related to the history, society and culture of the Dominican Republic.

CCNY Retains Standing As ‘U.S. NEWS’ Diversity Leader
NEW YORK, August 24, 2009 – The City College of New York (CCNY) ranks first in diversity among masters-level universities where Hispanics comprise the largest minority group, according to the 2010 “U.S. News & World Report America’s Best Colleges” guidebook. Hispanics comprise 39 percent of CCNY’s student population, the report noted.

President Williams Kicks Off Lecture Series At CCNY Center For Worker Education
NEW YORK, August 21, 2009 – CCNY President Gregory H. Williams inaugurates the Center for Worker Education’s Book Talk lecture series, which runs August 31 through December 14. CCNY Appoints NYPD Veteran Steven Harris Director Of Security And Public Safety
NEW YORK, August 13, 2009 – Steven L. Harris, a 25-year veteran of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), has been appointed Director of Security and Public Safety for The City College of New York (CCNY). In addition, Douglas M. White, a member of the CCNY Office of Public Safety since 1992, has been promoted to Deputy Director from Lieutenant. The appointments, effective August 10, were announced by CCNY President Gregory H. Williams.
