CCNY Distinguished Professor Michael Sorkin Elected Fellow Of American Academy Of Arts & Sciences
NEW YORK, April 21, 2009 - Michael Sorkin, Distinguished Professor of Architecture and Director of the Graduate Urban Design Program at The City College of New York (CCNY), has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, the Academy announced yesterday. He will be inducted into the Academy at an October 10 ceremony at its headquarters in Cambridge, Mass.

Urban Youth Face Dire Situation, Participants In CCNY Workshop Warn
NEW YORK, April 21, 2009 – Urban youth face, particularly in Central Harlem, face a dire situation characterized by low high school graduation rates and high rates of unemployment, incarceration and homicide. NIH Awards CCNY Neuroscientists $2.8 Million To Study Multisensory Integration Deficits In Autism Patients
NEW YORK, April 13, 2009 – Drs. Sophie Molholm and John Foxe, neuroscientists at The City College of New York (CCNY), have been awarded $2.8 million over five years from the National Institute of Mental Heath of the National Institutes of Health to study whether and how multisensory integration – the nervous system’s integration of different sensory stimuli – is impaired in persons with autism.

CCNY Senior Kimberly Paige Young Receives Javits Fellowship For Graduate School
NEW YORK, April 8, 2009 –Kimberly Paige Young, a senior in The City College of New York (CCNY) English Honors Program, has been selected as a Jacob K. Javits Fellow for the 2009-2010 academic year. The program, administered by the U.S. Department of Education, provides up to $30,000 in support for a period not exceeding four years for graduate study in the arts, humanities or social sciences.

According to Dr. Tony Ro, a Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at The City College of New York (CCNY), the answer is “no.” New research published in “The Journal of Neuroscience” by Professor Ro and colleagues from the University of Illinois demonstrates that the brain cannot detect images when brainwave activity is in a trough.
