• Civil Service Employees Association Legislative Internship Program - Spring 2004

    Overview:

    The Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) (New York's largest public employee union) will sponsor two full-time undergraduate legislative internships in Albany in Spring 2004. Students will work under the direct supervision of professional lobbyists and political consultants. Interns assist with bill research and legislative tracking and monitoring; interns will attend legislative events and assist lobbyists in working with elected officials.

    Required qualifications:

    Students classified as juniors or seniors are eligible. Interns are required to live in Albany and work on a full-time basis. Credit hours (typically upto 15 credits) and gradiing procedures can be arranged through a sponsoring faculty member.

    Dates of program:

    January - June 2004 (Spring Semester 2004)

    Application deadline:

    November 21, 2003 - Applications should consist of a cover letter indicating interest and a resume, sent to CSE-PAF Internship, 143 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12210.

    Compensation:

    The internship provides a stipend of $1,200 per month for January through June.

  • New York State Assembly Undergraduate Session Assistants Program - Spring 2004

    Overview:

    The New York State Assembly sponsors an on-site experience for upto 150 undergraduates studying at colleges and universities in New York. Students ordinarily work in the offices of individual members of the assembly and participate in programs and workshops associated with experience. Students can typically earn 15 credit hours at their CUNY campus for participating in the program.

    Required qualifications:

    Applicants must be matriculated in a college degree program. Applicants may be from any major. All applicants must demonstrate academic ability, intellectual curiosity and receive the positive recommendation of their campus liaison. At CCNY, the liaison is Prof. Vince Boudreau in the Dept. of Political Science.

    Dates of program:

    January 5, 2004 - May 12, 2004 (Spring Semester 2004)

    Application deadline:

    October 15, 2003 - Applications should be turned into Prof. Vince Boudreau, Dept. of Political Science, NAC 4/150.

    Compensation:

    The Assembly awards a $3,500 stipend to offset costs of moving to and living in Albany. CUNY provides an additional $1,500, so that interns receive a total of $5,000.

  • New York State Senate Undergraduate Session Assistants Program - Spring 2004

    Overview:

    The New York State Senate sponsors an on-site experience for upto 62 undergraduates studying at colleges and universities in New York. Students ordinarily work in the offices of individual senators and participate in programs and workshops associated with experience. Students can typically earn 15 credit hours at their CUNY campus for participating in the program.

    Required qualifications:

    Must be U.S. citizen with 3.0 grade point average, full-time enrollment in immediately previous spring term and current fall semester, with expectation of continued enrollment next spring. Program is designed for college juniors and seniors; exceptional sophomores may be selected. Freshmen are ineligible.

    Dates of program:

    January 8, 2004 - April 28, 2004 (Spring Semester 2004)

    October 15, 2003 - Applications should be turned into Prof. Vince Boudreau, Dept. of Political Science, NAC 4/150.

    Compensation:

    The Senate awards a $3,500 stipend to offset costs of moving to and living in Albany, paid in biweekly installments. CUNY provides an additional $1,500, so that interns receive a total of $5,000.
