Public Service Management
Faculty Application for Research Program
INSTRUCTIONS FOR REQUESTING A RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Faculty may request a graduate-student research assistant through our research program. We will place a graduate student from the Public Service Management program with the faculty based on faculty input and similarities in research interests. Appointments are made for one year. Faculty with various research projects may request more than one research assistant. In return for a stipend of $5,000 for the academic year, students are required to spend 10 - 15 hours per week assisting faculty, as well as developing their own (or joint) research project, preferably related to their RA work.
Eligibility and Other Requirements
- Faculty must be in the Social Sciences Division within The City College of New York.
- Mentoring and Guidance: Faculty mentors are expected to offer guidance as the student generates his/her own ideas for a research project. The student will work on this project during the fall and spring, in addition to assisting the faculty mentor with RA duties pertaining to the faculty's research needs. At the end of the spring, the student will present their work in a small student conference. Students may work on a joint project with the faculty mentor, and we encourage those projects to be sent for publication in a peer review journal. In such instances, the program may provide additional funding for research expenditures such as data collection, and conference attendance.
