CENTER MISSIONThe Charles B. Rangel Center at City College is committed to helping ensure that those who run our nation will better reflect our citizenry. The Center approaches that mission with a set of inter-related programs designed to support student achievement and to advance research on issues related to diversity in public service.
CENTER PROGRAMSThe Rangel Center provides various types of support to students enrolled in CCNY's Public Service Management (PSM) Program, which prepares students, particularly those traditionally underrepresented in public service, for management jobs in government agencies and nonprofit organizations. The program awards a master's degree in public administration.
The Rangel Center provides scholarships and other types of financial support to PSM students. It also sponsors policy briefings by national leaders, as well as career, networking, and professional development events. In the past several year, the Center has awarded tuition assistance to dozens of PSM students. It has sponsored briefings from leading national policy figures, including the Comptroller General of the United States, the US Senate Historian, the Director of the National Governors Association. Center sponsored events have helped build student skills in project management, team building, grant preparation, and resume writing. Rangel supported students have secured White House internships, Truman Fellowships and other honors.
The Rangel Center also supports student research and sponsors faculty research on issues pertaining to expanding participation of underserved populations in the public service. The research agenda is carried out through a small grant program and through research assistantships for students.
Fundamental to the Honorable Charles B. Rangel's lifelong service to the nation is a belief that government in the U.S. must mirror the rich tapestry of cultures, faiths, and ethnicities that make us who we are as a country. We at the City College of New York and the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service are proud to share that vision of our country and to dedicate our efforts to help make this a worthy mission a reality.
