The City College of New York recognizes the scientific and ethical responsibility for the humane care and use of animals involved in research and education and maintains the highest standards of animal care.
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) as an agent for the City College of New York, has an obligation for the humane care and use of animals. The IACUC's responsibilities includes the following:
- To ensure that all activities involving animals meet the ethical and legal requirements for the humane care and use of animals
- To maintain and promote an open and cooperative relationship with investigators and faculty, and the greater college community
- To educate the City College of New York community concerning the ethical and regulatory consideration for the humane care of animals
- To educate the CCNY community on the importance of animals for research and teaching.

We also hope the information helps you through the process required to meet these obligations. Any research, training, testing and teaching activities involving live, vertebrate animals must be approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
