Academic Support

The Science Advising Center
Located on the Plaza Level of Marshak Hall, the Advising Center serves as the main information source for all undergraduate science majors. The staff of the Center is responsible for monitoring the academic progress of the students in the Division, referring them for research and internships, coordinating tutorial services, distributing information such as scholarships, events taking place in the college and beyond, and in general developing a sense of community among the students, faculty, and staff.

City College Academy for Professional Preparation (CCAPP)
The City College Academy for Professional Preparation (CCAPP) program provides science, architecture and pre medical and allied health professions students with a supportive community of fellow students, faculty and staff that promotes their academic success and prepares them for entry into professional careers and/or graduate programs. CCAPP serves students throughout their college career.

Minority Access and Research Career/Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (MARC/RISE)
The Minority Access and Research Career (MARC) and the Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) programs are NIH funded programs that provide stipends and specialized training for academically qualified undergraduate and graduate students committed to pursuing careers in the biomedical sciences.

Program in Premedical Studies (PPS)
The Program in Premedical Studies (PPS) is designed to prepare students for careers in medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, veterinary medicine, optometry and podiatry. The Program provides academic guidance and career counseling, tutoring, preparation for MCATs and other assistance to become a successful applicant to the health professions.

Peer-led Team Learning (PLTL)
Peer-led Team Learning is a nationally known model for undergraduate science education that originated at City College. Students who have done well in the class have the opportunity to become "peer-leaders" who facilitate debate and discussion of scientific ideas and problem solving.

Science Undergraduate Research Information Center (SURIC)
SURIC is a unique center within the Division of Science that is designed to establish an information and referral mechanism for undergraduate science majors interested in doing scientific research. It provides a database of research students and monitors their progress through their research experience.

Tutoring
The purpose of the Tutoring Program is to assist students enrolled in coursers in the Division of Science. The program provides tutoring in chemistry, biology, physics, and math.  For a specific tutoring schedule click on the link above or visit the Advising Center. Everyone is welcome and you don't need to sign up before hand -- just show up!
