Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education


Founded at City College in 1973, the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education was established to recruit underrepresented minorities into medicine, increase medical services in historically underserved areas, and increase the availability of primary care physicians.


We offer two unique and challenging programs leading to careers in medicine:

Our innovative five-year Biomedical Science Program integrates undergraduate education with the first two years of medical school curriculum. Students graduate with a B.S. degree from City College and move on to complete their final two years towards the M.D. in one of five cooperating medical schools – Albany Medical College, New York Medical College, New York University School of Medicine, The State University of New York (SUNY) Health Science Center at Brooklyn - College of Medicine, and Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Medicine. Our Physician Assistant (P.A.) Program is a 28-month upper division program leading to a B.S. degree and certification as a Physician Assistant.  It was one of the first baccalaureate degree-granting physician assistant programs in the country. Continue reading...
