November 18, 2004 Dear Student:
As we come to the end of the fall semester, I want to inform you of the following activities for the Intersession and spring semester.
Program Planning and Registration: You must meet with your faculty advisor and your SSSP counselor to plan your academic program for next semester. I have enclosed a six-year academic program plan for you to complete and bring to your SSSP counselor for review and discussion. You will need a check list of courses needed for your intended major from the academic division (Engineering, Social Sciences, Humanities, Education, Architecture and Science ). You may also obtain the check list from the CCNY website. Undecided majors must obtain a check list of the liberal arts core requirements.
Those of you planning to register over the web, make sure you have taken the right courses for your major and/or the liberal arts core requirements. Web registration will begin in December, and only students who have received letters from the registrars office can register. Last day for Web registration is Thursday, January 6. In person registration for continuing students will be on, January 24-25, 2005.The Spring 2005 Schedule of Classes is available online at www.ccny.cuny.edu .
Check your transcript on e-Sims, you will be given an appointment date for web registration. If you have ANY stop, you will not be able to register over the web. You must get the stop removed. If you are on Probation or have a GP (grade point) Stop and have to appeal, please make an appointment with your counselor in December or January, to discuss appeal procedures, before January 24.
Tutoring: The Academic Resource Center is open from
9:00AM-6:00PM Monday through Thursday for SSSP students. You are encouraged
to use the Center for tutoring, group and individual study and to use
the computer lab.Group study can also be held in NAC 6/118 or NAC 6/120.Please
contact Ms Ponnuraj in NAC 6/148 for keys to the room.
Mathematics final review will start from December 13-20,
2004. The schedule is as follows:
Holiday Cultural Diversity Program will be held on Thursday, December 2, during club hours 12:00-2:00PM in the NAC Ballroom (first floor). Please join us for an end of semester cultural program that will include presentations, food and dances from around the globe. If you want to participate by bringing food, artifacts or dress of your country of origin, please inform your SSSP counselor or Mr. Aponte in NAC 7/239. Performances such as a native dance or fashion show are also welcome. A Holiday sing-along will be held. The program is your opportunity to display your cultural heritage and talents. Certificates for participation will be given to all participants who contribute their talents to the cultural program, during the SSS award ceremony in May. Freshman Year Programs will hold its January Intersession from January 3-20, 2005. Freshmen and sophomores may register, starting December 6-15, In Administration Building Room 210
Juniors and Seniors: Two SSSP programs have been planned for juniors and seniors. GRE Practice Session and Senior Experience Program: Wednesday, January 19. NAC 7/239
GRE Practice Session: A seven-week session on preparing for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) will be held in the Spring.. This, once a week (Fridays) session will begin on January, 20. The intensive practice session is geared for juniors and seniors planning to attend graduate school in the future. It is highly recommended for students with 70 credits or more. The session will be FREE for SSS students . Please contact us at NAC 6/148, at 650-6411, for more information, or to sign up for the session. We need at least 10 students to hold the session. The exact dates and times will be announced in December. Please check our Bulleting Boards for any announcements regarding the GRE preparation sessions.
All Day workshop for Juniors and SeniorsWednesday,
January 19: SSSP will hold Transitioning from College to a Professional
Career beginning at 10:00AM Representatives from the Career Center, CCNY
Graduate Admissions, and corporation will be present to meet with students.
The workshop will discus requirements and options in the world of professional
employment and careers. Included will be a workshop on resume writing,
interviewing, professional recruitment and applying to graduate schools.
Juniors and Seniors: An internship program with the Division of Student Affairs is available to three SSSP students majoring in Psychology or sociology with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Please contact your counselor, or call 650-6411, if you want to be an intern. You receive three credits and $300 .
Rosenberg-Humphrey Summer Internships in Washington and New York. Rolling Applications for early admission begin on November 22. Selection committee strongly encourages early applications in order to remain competitive in placing interns. This means that they will interview the first batch of applicants and be able to start placements in December. The applications/selection process will continue through February 21/or until all internship slots are allotted. It has been a mutually wonderful experience knowing and assisting you. You can be assured that you can do anything your heart desires, now that you have been through the City College experience!!!
