Zhanna Soushko
was born in Belarus and came from a family where
education was revered. When she arrived in the US, she was unable to
attend college because she had to earn money to support her family in
Belarus. She is an International Studies major and plans to complete a
Ph.D. in Political Science and a JD in International Law . She has a GPA
of 4.0. She has served as a teaching assistant for her professors,
organized a trip to the United Nations and has assisted in academic
program planning. She is a volunteer for UNICEF and developed a project
that focuses on the issue of out-of-school girls in poor countries. Zhanna
designed a Newsletter for the NGO Committee on UNICEF. She also assisted
the International League for Human Rights prepare a letter of protest
against the mass persecution of journalists in Uzbekistan. Zhanna is a
CCNY Fellow, and served as a Rosen Humphrey Intern in Washington D.C.
