Dear Student:
As we come to the end of the fall semester, I want to inform you of the following activities for the Intersession and Spring semester.
Program Planning and Registration: You must meet with your faculty advisor and your SSSP counselor to plan your academic program for next semester. Those of you planning to register by phone, please make sure you have taken the right courses for your major and/or the liberal arts core requirement. Telephone registration will begin on December 1, and only students who have received letters from the registrar's office can register over the telephone. The Spring 2004 Schedule of classes will be available online at www.ccny.cuny.edu .
Tutoring: The Academic Resource Center is open from 9:00AM-6:00PM Monday through Thursday for SSSP students. You are encouraged to use the Center for tutoring, group and individual study and to use the computer lab.
One-on-one tutoring in the Academic Resource Center in NAC 7/239 will continue until the middle of December. After December 15 tutoring will be on demand only. You must let Mr. Aponte know if you want to continue on with tutoring. His office is NAC7/245 or 239 and his phone number is 212-650-6828.
Special mathematics final review will start from December 8-18, 2003. The schedule is as follows:
Math 190 M:11-12N, Tu:1-2:00PM, W:12Noon, Th:12N-2:00PM
Math 201 Tu:11AM-1PM; Thu 11-12Noon
Math 202 W: 11-12Noon
Please check the bulletin board in NAC 7/239 if any extended hours of tutoring during and prior to exam week has been scheduled.Holiday Cultural Diversity Program will be held on Thursday, December 4, during club hours 12:00-2:00PM in the NAC Ballroom (first floor). Please join us for an end of semester cultural program that will include presentations, food and dances from around the globe. If you want to participate in a Greek dance, please go to our main office in NAC 6/148 to sign-up, or contact Marika at raraavis@nyc.rr.com.
Freshman Year Programs will hold its January Intersession from January 5-27.
Freshman and sophomores may register, starting December 1-11, for the following courses:
Math SKAT workshop,195, 190; ACT Writing Workshop, ACT Reading Workshop, Math SKAT, Bridge to chemistry 103, Bridge to Physics 203/207; Please call 650-6115 or stop by A-206 for more information. The schedule of courses is placed on SSS bulletin boards in the 6th and 7th floors.Juniors and Seniors: Two SSSP programs have been planned for juniors and seniors.
GRE Practice Session: A seven-week session on preparing for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) will be held in the Spring.. This, once a week (Fridays) session will be begin in January. The intensive practice session is geared for juniors and seniors planning to attend graduate school in the future. It is highly recommended for students with 90 credits or more. The session will be FREE for SSS students. Please contact us at NAC 6/148, at 650-6411, for more information, or to sign up for the session. We need at least 10 students to hold the session. The exact dates and times will be announced in December. Please check our Bulleting Boards for any announcements regarding the GRE preparation sessions.
Senior Experience Program: Wednesday, January 21. NAC 7/239
Workshop: The Career Center will hold Transitioning from College to a Professional Career from10:00AM-12:30PM. The workshop will discus requirements and options in the world of professional employment and careers. Included will be a workshop on resume writing, interviewing, professional recruitment and applying to graduate schools. Juniors and seniors should sign up in NAC 6/148 if you plan to attend the workshop. Graduating seniors are strongly urged to attend the workshop.
Juniors and Seniors: An internship program with the Division of Student Affairs is available to four SSSP students majoring in Psychology or sociology with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Please contact your counselor, or call 650-6411, if you want to be an intern. You receive three credits and $300.
Graduating Seniors. Congratulations!! We wish you all the best in your new life as college graduates. It has been a mutually wonderful experience knowing and assisting you. You can be assured that you can do anything your heart desires, now that you have been through the City College experience!!! Please let us know when you plan to attend grad school.
