Support Services at CCNY
Many programs
and departments in the College offer academic support services to students.
Information on the major programs is provided below. If the number is
only listed as an extension (x) and you are off-campus, you will
need to dial 1-212-650-7000 and then the extension.
Biology
Resource Center
The Biology Resource Center is a drop-in multimedia facility designed
to allow students to supplement their classroom and laboratory instruction
on their own time. Located in the Marshak Science Building, Room J502,
student's may use the Center's computers to access software packages
that cover a variety of topics relevant to their coursework, featuring
animation, practice problems, self-tests, and other learning tools.
In addition, students have the use of models, slides, audio tapes of
faculty lectures, textbooks, and other materials. Check with the Biology
Department office (212-650-6800) for hours of operation.
CCAPP
The City College Academy for Professional Preparation (CCAPP) offers
science (including pre-medical), architecture, and pre-nursing students
a full program of academic support and enrichment. The program includes
weekly tutorial workshops for all introductory and advanced biology,
chemistry, and physics courses, referral to research and internship
experiences, counseling, career and skills development workshops, social
activities, and access to study space in the CCAPP Study Center (Marshak
Science Building, Room J1005) and the CCAPP Architecture Studio (Shepard
Hall, Room S409). For more information on CCAPP please contact Professor

Chemistry
Tutoring Center
The Chemistry Tutoring Center is located in Room J1029 in the Marshak
Science Building. Extensive tutoring services are available for students
in all general chemistry and some advanced courses. For further information

Engineering
The Office of Recruitment and Retention, located in Steinman Hall, Rm
T-2M7, assists in coordinating tutorial services offered by the Engineering
departments; tutoring is also available through the campus chapters
of engineering societies and organizations. PRES (Program for the Retention
of Engineering Students) is a comprehensive enrichment program for selected
minority engineering students that offers an array of support services,
including tutoring in prerequisite math, science, and some introductory
engineering courses. For further information on PRES please contact

Languages Department - Tutoring Services
The Department offers tutoring to any student enrolled in courses who
needs additional help. Tutors are advanced students who have been recommended
by the faculty. The tutoring office is open on a regular basis. The

NYC
Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
(NYC-LSAMP)
NYC-LSAMP has, since its inception in November 1992, been at the forefront
of a concerted effort to increase annual minority SMET (Science,
Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology)
enrollment and graduation in the City University of New York. The Alliance
provides academic scholarship support to CUNY students majoring in the
SMET disciplines, making research an integral part of SMET education
in New York City.

Physics
Tutoring Center
The Physics Department (212-650-6832) operates the Physics Tutoring
Center located in Room J418S. Staffed by upper-level physics majors,
help is available in the introductory, as well as some of the more advanced,

Search
for Education, Elevation and Knowledge (SEEK) Program's Study Center
Tutorial services, in the form of individual and group tutoring, are
available to all SEEK students. Instructor, counselor, and/or self-referrals
are accepted. Tutoring is available in both basic skills areas and academic
subjects. In addition to tutoring, supplemental instruction is offered
in a variety of modalities such as cooperative learning groups, precept
classes, computer-assisted instruction, skills immersion workshops,
and review sessions. The Center offers individual and small group tutoring
in basic skills and academic subjects as well as access to computers.

Student
Support Services Program
The Student Support Services Program offers academic, career, financial
assistance and personal counseling to non-SEEK students who are enrolled
in two or more remedial courses. In addition, group and individual tutoring
are provided to help students acquire and develop writing and mathematical
skills. Workshops in such areas as study skills, test taking, note taking,
term paper writing, research techniques, and resume writing are offered
during the academic year. Cultural enrichment activities are also part

Writing
Center
The CCNY Writing Center offers one-on-one assistance for students working
on writing assignments and projects from across the disciplines. You
should visit us whenever you need someone to listen to your ideas, discuss
your topics or assignments, and read your drafts. Tutors will work with
you on planning, drafting, and revising -- all of the important steps
in your writing process.
