Assessment of the WAC @ City Program
Faculty perspectives on WAC at City:
Survey results from spring 2000 to spring 2006
Between spring 2000 and spring 2006, the City College Writing Across the Curriculum program developed collaborative partnerships with 52 CCNY faculty members. In February 2006, these faculty members were asked to complete a survey assessing their experience working with a CCNY writing fellow. 45 of the faculty participants were successfully contacted and 26 completed the survey. The majority of survey responses came from faculty partners in the humanities (12). The rest were distributed among faculty from the social sciences, life/physical sciences, education, and architecture.
In general, faculty partners:
- reported being satisfied with their experience collaborating with a CCNY writing fellow (27 of 28);
- felt that collaborating with a writing fellow improved their students' writing (26 of 28).
- reported that collaborating with a writing fellow helped them
- become more conscious of the goals for their course, and
- understand the connection between writing and their course content.
Tables 1 and 2 show the results for these two questions.
