Programs And Objective

The Women’s Studies Program is an interdisciplinary academic program offering students a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic approach to the study of women and gender. Its introductory course, entitled “Women’s Roles in Society,” Women’s Studies 10000 , seeks to stimulate new perspectives and encourage gender awareness and equality. Over the past several years, in the spring semester, the program has offered a special seminar open to interested students. For Spring 2007 this course will be “Women and Biology .” The Program also offers a series of electives offered by other departments, including Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, History, English, International Studies, Art, Political Science and Latin American Studies. The awareness of the role gender plays in society empowers students personally and professionally. Understanding past and present variations of gender relations throughout the world transforms our approach to many disciplines. When we begin to talk about gender differences, we also begin to understand the centrality of women’s participation in the building of societies. A Women’s Studies minor prepares students to work in a wide variety of professions including: law , business, education ,medicine, politics and  public service .
