Teaching Fellows: Cohort 27

Announcements

Welcome, Cohort 27! Please familiarize yourself with this page, as it contains a wealth of information for your time with us.  The first section below is information for your entire cohort, with subsequent sections specialized for each particular program. We look forward to working with you.

INFORMATION FOR ALL COHORT 27 FELLOWS

Obtaining a CCNY ID

You will need a valid CCNY ID to access our campus (e.g., to get into building, use the library, and check out media equipment).  To obtain an ID, please visit the ID office in NAC 1/205B.  Hours are Monday through Thursday 10am-4:45pm.

Obtaining a CCNY email address

You must communicate with CCNY staff and faculty using your CCNY CityMail address.  Please make a practice of always including your program (e.g., TESOL, Spanish) and your CUNYfirst EMPLID and first and last name when you email anyone at CCNY, as this practice will ensure a faster response to your inquiries.

Additionally, important updates regarding class cancellations, room changes, and more will be communicated to you via your CityMail account, so check this address frequently.  You can set up your account online.

Claiming your CUNYfirst Account

You will use CUNYfirst to register for classes each semester. You will also use to to drop or swap classes. It will also show where classes can be located and who will teach those classes. Plus, you will use it to check your grades and unofficial transcripts.  You EMPLID is your unique, 8-digit student ID number. Please memorize it and make sure to include it on all official documents and in all emails when you communicate with anyone who works at CCNY.  Please claim your CUNYfirst account by following the directions.

Registering for Fall 2016

We will provide you with details for this soon – we will come by your classrooms with directions for fall registration. Apart from this summer, you are the only person who can register yourself for classes.  You can find the courses you will take in the fall in your program information below.

DASA

We will provide you with DASA training in the first week of August (after 4:30pm).  Exact details will be shared shortly.  DASA is required for everyone in order to begin teaching. If you’ve already completed DASA, please share your certificate with lgodley@ccny.cuny.edu

Taskstream

A Taskstream account is required for most, if not all, semesters in which you will be enrolled at CCNY.  We recommend you choose a 2-year package, as this is the most cost effective package for you.  You are required to have your Taskstream account active in the Fall 2016 semester as a part of your student teaching course (though your summer classes may also require you to sign up for Taskstream).  You can sign up – make sure to choose the correct major:

Blackboard

Blackboard may be required for specific courses.  Instructors can use Blackboard to share articles or announcements to your course.  Blackboard accounts are free.  Information for setting up blackboard accounts

Advisement/Transcript Review

You have until the end of your time at CCNY to complete any missing liberal arts credits and/or educational prerequisites that may be required for the completion of your program. The courses/credits you will need depend upon previously completed credits, as reflected on your transcripts. These requirements must be completed at the financial cost of the fellow.  CCNY personnel will be conducting an official review of your transcript in the coming months, and we aim to provide you with a letter detailing your specific requirements by the end of July. This is simply an initial review, and if you believe you have actually met these requirements, you may ask your adviser to review your transcript in greater depth in September once the fall semester begins.  Advisers will not be available for transcript review in the summer.

Click the link below for more information about general liberal arts prerequisites (Note: SPED Bilingual fellows have 2 additional education prerequisites – see your program section below):

Transitional B Certification

At this point, you should already have an active TEACH account. We will provide you with detailed information on how to submit your application for the Transitional B, and we ask that you do not submit this application at this time on your own since you will first need to pass our bilingual proficiency exam to determine if you will remain in your program (TESOL fellows may apply for the Trans B if you wish, but if you have questions, please wait until we provide you with detailed instructions to apply).  You can find more detailed information on the Transitional B requirements below in your program information.

NOTE: The Transitional B license is valid for up to 3 years and is only valid while you are actively enrolled at CCNY.  The Transitional B certificate expires upon graduation, so we strongly urge you to meet all requirements for Initial Certification before you graduate.
