Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, Ethan received his first Bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Oregon in 2013. While studying abroad in Lyon, France, his search for inspiration ultimately led him to physics. Ethan moved to NYC to attend City College due to its stellar physics program, affordability, and proximity to countless academic and cultural opportunities.

Ethan is currently conducting research in biomedical optics. He is drawn to photonics (the study of photons, i.e. light) because it is a field at the forefront of technological development while remaining firmly rooted in an understanding of fundamental physical interactions. A survivor of childhood cancer, Ethan is researching to gain an understanding of the intersection of physics and biology in order to improve methods of non-invasive cancer detection.
