Anthropology/Black Studies Major
City College Fellow
Jamar Brown is a Black Studies and anthropology double major at The City College of New York. Prior to his undergraduate research at the City College of New York, he was a professional arena football player. His research interests bring together the various fields of critical race studies, prison-industrial complex studies, studies of prison abolition, and neoliberalism. For his undergraduate research project, he plans to take an interdisciplinary approach, examining neoliberalism and the expansion of the prison industrial complex. Upon the completion of his bachelor’s degree, Jamar plans to obtain a PhD in anthropology with an expansive and critical engagement with the prison industrial complex, the relationship to the nation-state, and the ways it impacts communities of color.
