Josías Agustín Méndez plans to pursue a career in academia after obtaining undergraduate degrees in Architecture and History and a graduate degree in Preservation. His main research interest centers on displacement as phenomenon, one that has a relationship to nation building as well as city and regional planning, evidenced by the push westward and the concept of manifest destiny. He has examined the rise of the United States as a nation and the impact that the process of colonization and expansion had on the Native American Peoples. In addition, Josías aims to investigate displacement throughout the American continent to compare and contrast how this practice has affected different localities. During the Spring semester of 2017, and under the guidance of Professor Renique, he began work on a historiography dealing with Argentina and the land grab known as the "conquest of the dessert." He plans to continue to elaborate on this project as a City College Fellow.
