Welcome Fall 2020

Shepard Hall

Welcome Fall 2020

An important message from the CCNY Vice President of Operations and Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO), Ken Ihrer: "Reaching IT During the Crisis".  To navigate the current teaching and learning landscape for the CCNY Community, the OIT Distance Learning Resource Directory lists resources by category and provides links to necessary tools, services, available training, support, along with relevant user policies and procedures. Additionally, please see the Important Notices from the VP/CIO and Information Security where you will find current important information and updates.

ABOUT IT SECURITY
We must keep our information and information systems secure.  This not only requires technology, protocols, and tools, but your awareness of the issues involved and attention to established and proven principles.  Security breaches may lead to loss of reputation, identity theft, legal damages, and the degradation of systems we all share.

Our students and staff trust us with their personal information.  The Information Security Office (ISO) must protect it against malicious and gratuitous attacks from outside as well as our own internal missteps. Our staff, especially those who handle sensitive data, must be aware of a number of policies and procedures CUNY has established, as well as applicable laws. Please review Secure Computing Practices.

This site is your starting point for learning about and understanding your information security obligations as a member of the CCNY community. See the CIO's Important Information Security Announcement for more information.

Services and Support
To help students reach their academic goals the Service Desk’s mission is to effectively and efficiently serve as the primary point of contact for students seeking a resolution to IT services provided by the college and IT.  Select support provided by the Office of Information Technology may include services for supplied laptops, mobile devices, software, hardware, and operating systems. We ensure that all possible measures are taken to troubleshoot and resolve the issue in a timely manner.

Welcome to our campus!

All of our students will use the technology infrastructure and services provided by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) while they are here at City College. As a registered student of City College you will be able to access all of the OIT online tools, resources, and services that are supported by the OIT. We are here to help you succeed and achieve your goals.

We recommend that students check the OIT website to become familiar with computing instructions, policies and regulations, best practices, services, and computing facilities. Please use the OIT website to access additional IT resources as well as information on how to get IT help and support.

Service Desk
Our Service Desk can be reached by sending an email to servicedesk@ccny.cuny.edu or calling 212-650-7878 .  Your request will be handled as quickly as we are able, realizing that our staff anticipates a large volume of requests.  I have asked Service Desk management to prioritize calls from faculty that are impacting a class.  For students, remember that your classes should be recorded so if you are unable to participate live, due to a technology issue, you should be able to watch the lecture once your problem is resolved.

24 Hour Office of Information Technology Chat Room
The Office of Information Technology will be monitoring a chat room that is available to you 24/7.  While we will not have staff monitoring this channel 24/7, I have asked my staff to frequently check for questions and try to respond as soon as possible.  To reach out to us through this channel, go to https://tinyurl.com/CCNYOIT and login with your CUNY login credentials ( firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu ).

Instructional Technology Chat Room
This chat room is for questions regarding using the teaching tools provided – Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, Zoom and BlueJeans.  It will be monitored by staff who can assist you, as well as by anyone reading the chat room that may know the answer to your question.  We are encouraging those faculty with experience to occasionally check in on this chat room and see if you can be of assistance.  We are hopeful we can all work on this together.  The channel for this room is https://tinyurl.com/CCNYInstructionalTech and login with your CUNY login credentials ( firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu ).
