Langston Hughes festival attracts 250 Harlem children

A 35-year tradition continues at The City College of New York Thursday, May 26, when 250 mostly local Harlem students, grades K through six, participate in the 2016 Langston Hughes Choral Speaking Festival. The event runs 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Aaron Davis Hall, Theater ‘A.’ The young participants perform imaginative renditions of Hughes' poetry and fiction. Performances range from choral reading and dramatization to interpretive dance, musical tributes and original poetry or prose. The festival was founded by the late Raymond R. Student startups earn $150K in CCNY’s Zahn competition

Hybridia, VeriPAD, StreetLabs, and Applied Motions are the grand prize winners in the Zahn Innovation Center’s Entrepreneurship Competition at The City College of New York. They pitched to investors, entrepreneurs, bankers, and other experts for a piece of $150K in prizes. This year, startups competed in four categories, including IoT, women in tech, and social impact. Grad students present research at annual symposium

Fifteen City College of New York graduate students walked away with cash prizes for their work at the Ninth Annual Graduate Student Research Symposium. The symposium offers students the experience to share their findings in a professional and academic setting. City College dominates 2016 Salk awards

The City College of New York is the recipient of four of the eight Jonas E. Salk Scholarship awarded by The City University of New York this year. The scholarships recognize exceptional students who plan careers in medicine and the biological sciences. As Salk Scholars, Alex Bonilla, Muhddesa Lakhana, Min Gyu Noh and Joy Patel will each receive a stipend of $8,000 to be appropriated over three or four years of medical studies. BIC team wins Gold Pencil in global One Club ad competition

A five-member team from The City College of New York’s BIC Program topped an international field to win the Gold Pencil in the One Club’s Young Ones Competition at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. CCNY team researches unique glass powder for concrete production

In potentially transformative research for both the recycling and concrete industries, a City College of New York civil engineering team is developing a glass powder to replace cement in the production of concrete. The material conceptualized by Dr. Julio Davalos and doctoral student Marija Krstic, was tested for sidewalk construction in South Jamaica, Queens, by the New York City Department of Design and Construction on May 5.
