The City College of New York begins its 2015 Women’s History Month (WHM) observance Tuesday, March 3, with a program of speakers and networking session 12 – 2 p.m. in the North Academic Center (NAC) Ballroom. The kickoff and other City College WHM events are free and open to the public. Following are highlights of the observance at CCNY: Saturday, March 7, Third Annual Women’s Leadership Summit. "Smart Bridge Sockets," a home energy management system that enables residential consumers to efficiently and autonomously manage home appliances, earned three City College of New York electrical engineering students first place in an international competition at the United Nations. The portable device was developed by Erzhena Badmatsyrenova (junior), Gayashan Fernando (senior) and Anna McGilloway (sophomore) in City College's Zahn Innovation Center . For the second year running, seven City College of New York student members of the Roosevelt Institute have had five papers accepted for publication in the Institute’s annual “10 Ideas Series” coming out in April. The booklet is a compilation of papers by Roosevelt student chapter members from the progressive non-profit organization’s more than 120 affiliated campuses. Moustafa Elshaabiny, president of the City College chapter, said by equaling the five CCNY papers published by the Institute last year, this new cohort had upheld the college’s reputation as one of top chapters in the Roosevelt

Delroy Lindo, Laura Osnes among the speakers Feb. 21 Actors Delroy Lindo , Laura Osnes and Amanda Quaid will be among the speakers at the inaugural CUNY Theatre Festival at The City College of New York, Saturday, February 21. The event, 12 Noon to 10 p.m. in Aaron Davis Hall , features workshops and student productions from eight CUNY schools. All the events are free and open to the public. Dr. Elaine Fuchs , an internationally renowned expert in skin biology, its stem cells and associated human genetic disorders, will deliver the annual Louis Levine-Gabriella de Beer Lecture in Genetics at The City College of New York, Thursday, March 12. Pulitzer-Prize winning poet winning author Tracy K. Smith will be the featured guest poet at the 43rd annual City College of New York Poetry Festival, Friday, May 8. The all-verse event runs 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Aronow Theater, located in CCNY’s NAC building. Dubbed “the Woodstock of the Spoken Word,” the festival is New York’s longest-running poetry celebration. The City College of New York is a co-leader nationally in producing the most 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholars, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has announced. The American Institute of Architects’ Jury of Fellows has elevated George Ranalli, dean of The City College of New York’s Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, to its College of Fellows.
