Laskin, director of The City College of New York’s Poetry Outreach Center, is celebrating her second consecutive Freedom Through Literacy Board Option Award from the Pennsylvania-based Judith’s Reading Room. A student team from The City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering returned from the National Society of Black Engineers’ 49th annual conference in Kansas City, Missouri, as NSBE Small Chapter of the Year Award winners. The City College of New York and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles have teamed up to create CCNY license plates so that alumni, staff, students, faculty and anyone who wants to display their CCNY pride have a new way to celebrate their school spirit. The idea came about at the start of planning for the 170th anniversary. Vanessa K. Valdés, associate provost for community engagement at The City College of New York, is co-curator of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition: Juan de Pareja, Afro-Hispanic Painter. The David Aronow Foundation is partnering, once again, with The City College of New York for a fellowship named after the Class of 1913 alumnus, David Aronow. The David Aronow Fellowship at City College will provide a $3000 stipend to students with unpaid internships.
