Meet The Peer Mentors

SYED
I am Syed Hussain a Sophomore in Grove School of engineering. I was born and raised in “The Bronx” (X pride!!!!!). Here's a quick note about “The Bronx”— it is the only location in the world to have “The” in the front. I started my career in City College as a NSEC student and I’m now in the Grove School of Engineering majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I became a peer mentor to help other incoming students learn about the campus, provide insight on some classes and applying to Grove. I understand the nerve-racking wait to enroll into classes or waiting for Grove to reply to your application. One random fact about me is that I like to eat banana peels and I also like physics (trust me, I am a normal person).

HANNAH
Hey there! My name is Hannah Arroyo and I’m a CCNY sophomore and art fanatic. As a born and raised Hispanic Bronx girl, my energetic spark for art and knowledge motivates me to become an art teacher. I also hope to someday open up my own art studio where people can take a variety of art classes in a supportive and creative space. While soaking up everything about my majors of studio art and art education, I actively pursue skills in leadership, public speaking, and blogging. I became an NSEC peer mentor to motivate college students through the chaos of college life. Stress has always been a challenge for me, so whether I’m sweating away stress at a Bikram Hot Yoga class or binge reading a good mystery novel, these are just the few of many ways that I deal with stress. Also, I'm a sucker for adorable cats, volleyball, and watching gamers on Youtube!

KHADIJAH
I'm Khadijah, the English major. I become a peer mentor because I had a mentor, as a first-year student, who taught me to always explore the opportunities available on campus. Being a first-generation student, it made me step out of my box, and make connections. However, I did struggle with managing my time. This is something that I have gotten better at but I constantly have to work on depending on my classes, the work, and my breaks. When I'm not in school, I love, love, learning ways to organize the home. I am also a Pinterest lover. I mean come on It's Pinterest, what's not to like?

ARSHIL
My name is Arshil Zaman. I am an Electrical Engineering student at CCNY. I was originally a Pre-Engineering student at the New Student Experience Center (NSEC) but after my first semester I got into The Grove School of Engineering. Most people ask me if college is difficult since I officially became an engineering student. It definitely is and I’m only surviving because I learned on how to manage my free time and study time. I used to be the biggest video game junkie, but that all changed after starting college. The most important piece of advice I can give is to not get discouraged and take your work seriously.
