Empowering Careers in Infrastructure
The Rangel Initiative provides industry-recognized training that prepares New Yorkers for careers in infrastructure, construction, transportation, and clean energy. Our programs support everyone from first-time job seekers to experienced professionals advancing their skills. We also design customized training to meet evolving workforce needs in partnership with labor organizations, municipal agencies, and industry leaders.
Free Workforce Training
Our no-cost job training programs provide underrepresented and underemployed individuals with skills and certifications essential for employment in many infrastructure careers. These programs are supported through federal and state grants and partnerships with organizations such as Atlantic COHST at Rutgers University. Key offerings include:
- Infrastructure Fundamentals ("Baseline Training") – A foundational course covering major infrastructure industries and careers.
- Specialized Tracks – Eligible graduates of Baseline Training may apply for advanced training in construction safety, hazardous waste management, and energy efficiency. As spots become available, they may also participate in our professional courses, free of charge.
Continuing Education for Professionals
For those looking to advance in their careers or gain new technical skills, the Rangel Initiative offers paid professional training and certifications in collaboration with the CCNY Office of Continuing and Professional Studies. Topics include:
- Autodesk CAD
- Construction Safety
- Environmental Remediation
- Industrial and Commercial Cleaning
- Professional Drone Operations
- Commercial Driver's License Preparation

Customized Workforce Development
The Rangel Initiative collaborates with employers, labor organizations, and public agencies to develop targeted training programs that address specific workforce needs. Recent initiatives include Civil 3D instruction for NYC DOT Division of Bridges staff to enhance technical expertise in bridge design and maintenance.
