Psychology
The department offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of alcohol and substance abuse, mental health counseling, clinical psychology, general psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Field work is an essential part of most programs and puts the classroom learning into real-life situations for further discussion - back in the classroom.
Welcome to the Department of Psychology at the City College of New York, a department that trains leaders in the science and practice of psychology. The department offers undergraduate and Masters coursework needed to obtain New York State certification as an Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. We offer Masters degrees in General Psychology and in Mental Health Counseling. We house doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology, a program honored for its training of minority students, and in Cognitive Neuroscience, a program that trains students in the use of state-of-the-art techniques in brain imaging.
Fieldwork placement, independent study, and the Honors Program provide students with opportunities to work closely with faculty on projects that examine social, cultural, clinical, cognitive, biological, developmental, and educational influences on behavior.
To better guide psychology majors through their academic experience, we offer a faculty advisement program called P.A.S.S. – the Psychology Advisement Support System. We sponsor two organizations for students studying psychology, The Psychology Student's Association (PSA), known as the "Psych Club," and Psi Chi, the National Honor Society of Psychology.
