Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities

Currently the Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities, Mr. Santos came to City College in 2005 as Acting Vice President for Facilities Planning, in charge of the science buildings on South Campus.  He now oversees all phases of facilities planning and capital projects on the CCNY campus and has managerial responsibility for Physical Plant Services and Campus Security.

Mr. Santos' career spans a wide-range of senior level appointments in higher education, cultural institutions, municipal government and construction.  He joined CCNY from The New York Public Library, where he served for five years as Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.  He worked as Chief Administrative Officer at Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y., where his management portfolio included: campus planning, design and construction, information technology, human resources and labor relations, campus security and facilities management.  Prior to that, Mr. Santos was Assistant Vice President, Operations with Lehrer McGovern Bovis, Inc., a major construction firm, from January 1989 to August 1998.  In that capacity, he served as project executive on assignments worth almost a quarter billion dollars for several New York City municipal agencies.

Mr. Santos held several positions in New York City government before joining Lehrer McGovern, among them: Assistant Commissioner, Department of Housing Preservation and Development, from May 1987 to December 1988; Executive Director, Flushing Meadows – Corona Park Development Corp., from October 1985 to April 1987, and Deputy Commissioner for Operations, Department of Parks and Recreation, from October 1979 to September 1985.

A highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War Mr. Santos served as Deputy Director of the College's Veterans' Affairs Office in 1974 and 1975.  Mr. Santos served as a platoon leader with the 101st Airborne in South Vietnam and earned numerous medals, including two Silver Stars and two Bronze Stars for valor.  A resident of Sunnyside Gardens, Queens, Mr. Santos holds a B.A. from SUNY Old Westbury and a J.D. from University of Michigan Law School.
