Vice President for Government, Community, and Cultural Affairs

Karen Mackey Witherspoon is Vice President of Government, Community, & Cultural Affairs and is responsible for establishing and cultivating critical and effective relationships between the college and surrounding community. 

A City College alumna, Karen taught high school English for the New York City Public School System for over 10 years. After leaving to work in the private sector for a number of years, her passion for public service lead her back to City College. 

Karen is a board member of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and is also Executive Director of the Urban Scholars Program, an intervention and enrichment program for at-risk youth. Under her leadership, the Division has acquired more than $20 million for CCNY in support of WHCR "The Voice of Harlem", the Center for Worker Education, The City College Center for the Arts, Alumni House, and Child Development Center.
