Shepard Hall (S) Shepard Hall is home to the School of Architecture, the only public architecture school in the metropolitan area and one of only two in New York State. The building also houses the Department of Media and Communication Arts, one of the fastest growing academic areas at CCNY, which specializes in advertising and public relations, film, video and print and broadcast journalism; and the Music Department, which has some of the nation's finest facilities for music training together with a state-of-the-art Sonic Arts Center and 19 acoustic modules for student practicing. |

The most impressive location in Shepard Hall is the aptly named Great Hall, a cathedral-scaled space that is the building's centerpiece. Recently reopened after a full restoration, The Great Hall is 185 feet long, 89 feet wide and 63 feet high. It seats 1520 including two balconies. The Hall has been the site of numerous historic events, including convocations, conferences, addresses and appearances by leading figures including Presidents William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson, and Franklin D. Roosevelt, as well as Albert Einstein and Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. |
