Majoring in Ad/PR

The Ad/PR program is a 36 credit major leading to a BA in Communications. It is a selective program that accepts admission through application only. In order to be considered for admission, students must:
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • complete MCA 101 Intro to Media Studies with a B- or higher
  • have 45 credits before entering the major
Students are encouraged to start taking major classes when they are upper sophomores or first semester juniors and to complete the major in 4 consecutive semesters, culminating in their senior year when students are required to take the Ad/PR Workshop, the capstone course of the major. Courses such as Social Media Strategies, Ad/PR Production, Media Planning, and Event Planning are offered as electives.

Students who do not maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in the major after completing our introductory classes are either given one semester on probation in the major or are required to select a different major.
